Washington DC, Smithsonian National Air Space Museum celebrates 50th anniversary of the Apollo mission

Travellers visiting the USA during July 2019, can join free celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo mission, taking place at The Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC.

The museum’s celebrations will be centred around the first Moon landing which occurred on July 20, 1969, sparking a national conversation about the past, present, and future of innovation and exploration.

From July 16-20 The Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum will host educational activities and events to celebrate the 50th anniversary, including a display of Neil Armstrong’s original Apollo 11 spacesuit, which will go back on display for the first time in 13 years.

Plus, interactive initiatives allowing visitors to retrace Neil Armstrong’s and Buzz Aldrin’s steps, visiting stations along a route in the museum approximately equivalent to the distances the astronauts walked.  At these stations staffed by scientists and historians, guests can explore photos and maps and learn about the area the astronauts traversed on the Moon.

Entry to The Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC is complimentary.
