SKAL Australia Record Breaking National Assembly
SKAL International Gold Coast hosted Skal International Australia AGM and 99th National Assembly which was held last weekend on the Gold Coast at QT. Key tourism industry people from around Australia, New Zealand and Singapore were in attendance.
Skål is a worldwide professional organization of tourism leaders, promoting global tourism and friendship. Skål Australia boasts the third largest membership of SKAL with 23 clubs around Australia and close to 1,000 members made up of 60% male and 40% female.
Skål is the only international group that unites all branches of the travel and tourism industry. Our members, the industry’s managers and executives meet at local, national, regional and international levels to discuss and pursue topics of common interest.
Founded in 1934, the organization today has approximately 15,000 members in 370 clubs throughout 83 nations. Through our leadership, professionalism and friendship we work together to achieve our mission of being a trusted voice in Travel & Tourism and maximize networking opportunities by doing business amongst friends.
A record number of delegates attended the 3 day event commencing with the Gold Coast Club function at the newly opened Ruby Collection on Thursday evening, followed by a Welcome Cocktail party on the Friday at QT on the lawn and then on Saturday the 99th National Assembly where the organization’s digital transformation strategy was showcased. This initiative will make it easier to do business with friends and will offer a host of communication options and improve the efficiency of access to its database of nearly 15,000 tourism leaders worldwide.
We were honored to have our Skål International World President – Lavonne Wittmann from the Pretoria Club (South Africa) and Skål International CEO – Daniela Otero from Spain in
attendance along with our New Zealand members from across the ditch Skål International Senior Vice President Peter Morrison (Christchurch) – Skål International Councilor New Zealand – Leighton Cameron (also from Christchurch) and Skål International New Zealand President Trish May (Queenstown).
Skål International Director Fiona McFarlane (Cairns Club), Skål International Councilor Australia and Skål International Australia Past President – Denise Scrafton (Melbourne Club) and our Honorary Past World President Mr Max Kingston (Sydney Club) also attended as well as Member d’Honneur Russell Butler.
Gold Coast President Peter Dunn and his Committee did an amazing job hosting us all and we thank them for their hard work and making us all feel very welcome as they showcased their city.
