From Telecom Center to an Eclectic Hotel for today’s times

What new eclectic hotel in Paris was once a former France Telecom center? Le 5 Codet hotel, an eclectic boutique hotel in a chic area of Paris, is somewhat reminiscent of the once busy technology center, yet completely transformed. One should not overlook the impressive collection of contemporary art, handsomely displayed throughout the hotel, with its French design.

Le 5 Codet is a member of the Design Hotels collection a select community of hotels that have original experiences as the common thread. “Original” should be the middle name of Le 5 Codet. Upon arrival, one walks in to be greeted by a reception desk shaped like a sculpted block of marble, in what seems to be a clever acknowledgement of the nearby Rodin museum. The interior design of glass and metal in a contemporary style is the creation of designer Jean-Philippe Nuel. This marvel of design has cleverly found a way to bridge the time gap from its past as a telecom center in the 1930s to the 21st Century.

Hotel le 5 Codet – Suite

Located in the heart of the chic 7eme arrondissement, along the left bank of the River Seine, the neighborhood has a residential vibe, away from the hectic activity of some more touristy neighborhoods. A stay at Le 5 Codet is a stay in authentic Paris. Have no fear if one intends to wear the tourist hat, because in close proximity and within walking distance, is the magical Eiffel Tower, the Rodin Museum, the Musée d’Orsay, and Les Invalides where lies the tomb of Napoleon.

Dining with a Flair

The architecture and layout of the restaurant was most interesting, with dining tables scattered throughout the space, rather than neatly placed in a symmetrical layout. Floor to ceiling windows brings the outdoors inside and the fireplace adds warmth and coziness. The bar, ideal for a night cap or after work cocktail, serves as a place to eat or drink, and the open concept cooking area, brings modernity to the space.

The breakfast spread was a remarkable way to start the day. With many different varieties of small breakfast pastries brought in fresh daily from the renowned French pastry shop, Maison Kaiser, cheeses, tomato tartare, fresh fruit, dried fruit and nuts with cereal and yogurt. A chef is on-hand to make custom omelettes of fresh ingredients in full view.

Wow – What a Loft

Although unconventional, the rooms are both functional and elegant. We had a very spacious duplex with high ceilings and two-story tall, huge bay windows. The room itself was a loft, divided into two levels.

On the first floor, one walks into a functional living space, with a leather sofa banquette and designer table and chairs, television and powder room. Upstairs there’s another full bathroom with rain shower and separate toilet. On the upper level, a king size bed awaits with a full sized bathtub at the foot of the bed, overlooking the living space below. Floor to ceiling windows with remote controlled window treatments are the piece de resistance.

Nespresso machines and Le Cinq Codet’s bespoke bath products were much appreciated. There were delicious Angelina sweets and complimentary water waiting for us in the room, which made for an extra special welcome.
