Teds Travels – Ana in Parque Patagonia

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but Chile has just nationalised an immense area of the Patagonia that was inherited by North face and Patagonia brand owner Douglas Thompkins. The billionaire, who died in 2015, left this area to Chile to promote the Conservation of natural landscape and wilderness.

After visiting the amazing glacier I told you about last week, we explored this new Park. Parque Patagonia has completely another landscape to the ones you can see around the glaciers, they say this is the proper Patagonia, the Patagonian Pampa. As soon as you approach the area you have to be aware of the guanacos grazing around alert of the tourists and the mighty pumas who live nearby and hunt them overnight.

You can do many things in this place: hiking, driving through scenic landscapes, bird watching, mountain biking, and many more. You can do any of the various trails they have set up, six of them are very well marked to visit La Confluencia, Lago Cochrane, Lagunas Altas, Cerro Kristine and many other natural monuments. If your clients want a first class accommodation inside the Park they can stay at the Lodge at Valle Chacabuco, where they will enjoy a cosy environment after coming back from their treks around the park and enjoy a meal made with the organic veggies harvested in their organic orchard.

Parque Patagonia is a wonderful place for a family trip, some trails are really easy and accessible, picnic and camping spots are available to fully enjoy the visit. The best part: the fauna. Guanacos are absolutely everywhere, and where Guanacos are, Pumas follow. The lagoons in the park are also home to a wide diversity of birds, including flamingos. Your clients will be able to see the local wildlife like Vizcachas, foxes, Armadillos, Geoffroy’s and Pampas Cats, condors, black necked swan, among many others!
