China Southern to support Sydney’s Chinese New Year celebrations

Hot on the hooves of its third Sydney Festival sponsorship, China Southern Airlines today announced a new sponsorship as the official airline of this year’s Sydney Chinese New Year Festival.

“We’re delighted to be strengthening our cultural links with Sydney because the festival is the largest Lunar New Year celebration outside China and our home base of Guangzhou is Sydney’s sister city,” said China Southern General Manager Australia/New Zealand Henry He.

Mr He said the two week festival would give China Southern a direct link to around 600,000 festival goers, many with strong family ties in China.

Highlights include the Chinese New Year Twilight Parade along George Street to Chinatown featuring street performers, lion dancers, lanterns and fireworks from 8pm on February 2.

For the first time, the airline will compete in the popular Dragon Boat races at Darling Harbour on February 8-9, with a China Southern boat hitting the water as well as a China Southern race.

“We are so looking forward to celebrating Chinese New Year of the Horse with our friends in Sydney. Gong Xi Fa Cai!” Mr He said.
