On the back of strong results in Thailand and Indonesia, AirAsia has just reported a profit of MYR224.1 million after tax in the first financial quarter of the year.
AirAsia said that its operations in Indonesia and Thailand were the highlights in the quarter on report, with Thailand generating THB3.1 billion in revenue, and Indonesian operations seeing a profit for the first time.
“The results in Thailand and Indonesia and the contribution from Ancillary are an endorsement of the strategic shifts we put in place in 2009,” said Tony Fernandes, AirAsia Group CEO.
“Thai AirAsia is now the largest domestic carrier in Thailand, while Indonesia’s improved performance is based on a realignment of its routes towards higher-yielding international flights.”
AirAsia says its profits were achieved on the back of strong growth in revenue, up to MYR878 million up 10% from a year earlier.
“Passenger load factor stood at 74%, up from 70% year-on-year despite a capacity increase of 11.1%. This demonstrates that our capacity growth is in line with market demand,” adds Mr Fernandes.
