A Delta pilot was arrested over the weekend after he was found carrying a concealed weapon while going through security at the Atlanta airport.
32-year-old Matthew Lamar McDaniel was going through security at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Saturday when airport officials found a loaded gun in his carry-on bag.
McDaniel, who has been a Delta pilot for 13 years, said he had put the gun in his bag after cleaning out his girlfriend’s car and had forgotten about it.
Authorities said McDaniel was not on duty at the time of his arrest.
A Delta spokeswoman Susan Chana Elliott told local media that people were frequently caught with loaded firearms during security checks.
"This happens to lots of people," she told UPI, "They forget to take their guns out of their cases."McDaniel was freed on $5,700 bail.
