Dunedin Airport is once again fully operational after a bomb scare yesterday shut the terminal for nearly five hours due to a suspicious article found in the downstairs toilet.
Up to 300 people had to be cleared out of the airport, after a member of airport staff spotted the unusual object in a toilet rubbish bin. It appeared to be a device with wires coming out of it.
Several flights between 9:30am and 2:00pm were either diverted to other airports or cancelled altogether.Bomb disposal units had scoured the airport and cordoned off the area in question, then reopened the airport for afternoon services. Further inspection discovered that the item was harmless and not explosive in nature.
