Meet MTA – Mobile Travel Agents’ Ann McKinnon

How long with MTA? 10 years.

Background:   Former ‘Check-in Chic’ with British Airways, handled groups for Trafalgar Tours. Groups Manager for Newmans Tours and Southern World New Zealand before moving to Australia and changing to retail travel.

What did you do before you joined MTA?  My husband and I worked our way around Australia for three years so had the opportunity to work in Broome and Darwin with Harvey World Travel as well as other jobs in Margaret River and Hermansburg.  After moving to Bangalow I was with Travelscene in Lismore before discovering the opportunity to work from home.

Do you have a specialised area in travel?  I don’t specialise in any one particular area of travel – I love it all!

What is the most unusual (or interesting) location you have worked as an MTA Mobile Travel Agent?  Under a tree while camping at Trilby Station near Louth on the Darling River Run in Western NSW.

What is the weirdest request you have had from a client?  A client asking for a diabetic meal inflight so she could be fed first.

If you hadn’t become an MTA Mobile Travel Agent – what other career path would you have taken?  Architecture.

What’s one of your biggest personal achievements? Success in my job and having a wonderful family and home.

Describe your perfect holiday:   One that combines some adventure with relaxation and pampering would be top of the list.

If you had a time machine where would you travel to and why?   I’d travel back to the mid-1920’s as a 20-year-old, a time when fashion was changing, commercial air travel was in its infancy and art deco style was all the rage.

If you could choose one, what would your super power be?  Mental telepathy – work would be so much easier being able to read client’s minds rather than having to try and read between the lines!

What three things do you always take with you when travelling?  My hairdryer, a good book and my husband!
