Meet MTA – Mobile Travel Agents’ Kate Narracott
Background: Born and bred Queenslander, mother to two wonderful kids and terrified of Blue Tongue lizards.
What did you do before you joined MTA? Worked for more than 20 years in administration until 2001 when I joined Jetset Travel.
Do you have a specialised area in travel? Leisure. I love to design itineraries that perfectly suit individual clients.
What is the most unusual (or interesting) location you have worked as an MTA Mobile Travel Agent? I’d have to say sitting with my feet up on a railing, computer in my lap, notepad beside me booking a tour for a client while I was in Kruger National Park, South Africa with monkeys playing in the trees above me.
What is the weirdest request you have had from a client? I had an anxious client who was certain that for some time the postman had been throwing any oversized mail into a nearby creek and she asked me to ring the local post office, report back to her with a reference number and assurances from the post mistress that this would not occur with her travel documents. And I did.
If you hadn’t become an MTA Mobile Travel Agent – what other career path would you have taken? I’d love to say something quite remarkable such as a concert pianist or world-renowned sportswoman – but travel has always been in my heart.
What’s one of your biggest personal achievements? Two ago I walked the Camino de Santiago in Spain … it was a life changing experience. I set out to honour a promise I had made to my brother and to prove to myself that with determination and the right mind set no challenge was ever too great.
Describe your perfect holiday. I’m an active adventurer at heart and prefer to be off the beaten path, mixing with the locals. So, combining a great day exploring new and exciting destinations and finishing with a glass of bubbly at the end of the day doesn’t get much better.
if you had a time machine where would you travel to and why? I would have loved to have spent time getting to know Audrey Hepburn so I think perhaps somewhere between the 1950s to 1960s to old style Hollywood.
If you could choose one, what would your super power be? To be able to Teleport myself to anywhere in the world. It would certainly help with jet lag.
What three things do you always take with you when travelling? A good book, a phone charger and my lipstick.
