Hilton’s Hotels in Singapore celebrate Hilton 100th Anniversary
In the lead-up to the 100th anniversary celebration of global hospitality company Hilton, the three hotels in Singapore managed by the hospitality group have committed to a year of giving back to the community through various partnerships with non-profit organizations and volunteer communities. Across the span of the year, more than 260 Team Members working in the three hotels will spend over 800 hours volunteering with these organizations in an effort to extend the celebrations into the community.
In tandem with its founder Conrad Hilton’s notion that travel can make the world a better place, the three hotels operated by Hilton: Conrad Centennial Singapore, Hilton Singapore and Hilton Garden Inn Singapore Serangoon have signed on to champion various initiatives. These range from community outreach to fund raising for charities, and driving awareness on caring for the environment in support of Hilton’s Corporate Responsibility mandate – Travel with Purpose – to reduce the company’s environmental footprint by half and double its social impact.
“Turning 100 is a huge milestone that is only made possible from the support of our Owners who are our most valued partners and the communities we operate in; the trust of our guests and the hard work of all our Team Members. It is a claim few other companies can make and that gives us even more reason to extend our celebrations into our communities,” said Peter Webster, regional general manager, Singapore, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos & Vietnam.
“With our headquarters for Asia Pacific in Singapore and having opened one of the first international hotels in this booming city with the entry of Hilton Singapore nearly 50 years ago, Singapore is a key part of our growth and we are delighted to have the opportunity to celebrate this occasion with our community,” added Webster.
Collectively, the three hotels came together in a walkathon-clean up during the recent Earth Hour 2019 in March to raise awareness and drive change for nature. The joint walk started from Hilton Garden Inn Singapore Serangoon to Hilton Singapore and ended at Conrad Centennial Singapore, seeing over 30 team members participate and collecting litter along the way to keep Singapore clean. In addition, all non-essential lights at the three hotels were dimmed for over 100 minutes.
In addition, the hotels share a soap-recycling programme which started in 2014. The programme saw used bars of soap from guest rooms transported to a processing warehouse in Hong Kong for recycling, following which they were transferred via non-profit organisations (NGOs) to selected communities in the Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand, and other countries across Asia. An average of 300 kilogrammes of soap is collected every year across each hotel for recycling.
“Our 100 Years of Hospitality celebration is a pivotal driving force in shaping our thoughts and actions for our guests, team members and the community. We are constantly striving to carry on the legacy of Conrad Hilton well into the next 100 years. As such many of our initiatives are focused on youths – we want to help build a future they can thrive and succeed in,“ added Heinrich Grafe, general manager, Conrad Centennial Singapore.
Committed to building a better tomorrow for the future generation, Conrad Centennial Singapore will be conducting fundraising for Boys’ Town Charity, an organisation that helps children and youths who come from disadvantaged and disengaged families. The hotel has prepared 100 limited edition Conrad Teddy Bears for sale the month of May at S$100 each. Guests can also enjoy a beautiful display of the bears which will be mounted in a two-meter display at the hotel’s lobby. All proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Boys’ Town Charity. The hotel will also offer internship opportunities to the Boys’ Town residents in an effort to provide them with work experience and skillsets that can be applied to future jobs.
At Hilton Singapore, community outreach is embraced by encouraging Team Member volunteerism and raising awareness in protecting the environment. A number of activities has been planned across the 100 days leading up to the anniversary on May 31 to enable Team Members’ involvement. These range from simple acts of hospitality such as celebrating birthdays for underprivileged children from Healthy Start Child Development Centre to friendly soccer matches between the hotel’s Team Members and differently-abled from Muscular Dystrophy Association Singapore on wheel chairs.
In addition, 25 Team Members from Hilton Singapore will be conducting a full day refresh exercise for a home of a low-income family and partake in community activities of clean-ups at parks as well as beaches to keep Singapore clean. The hotel is also an active volunteer at non-profit organizations such as Willing Hearts and Touch Community Services to assist in preparation and distribution of food packs to the needy and home-bound elderly.
The newest addition to the Hilton family, Hilton Garden Inn Singapore Serangoon, will be celebrating its second anniversary on June 1, 2019 by engaging Krishna’s Kitchen, a local soup kitchen to cook for its Team members in return for a token of donation that will go towards providing meals for the needy in Singapore. The hotel believes in a celebration that is also meaningful to the community.
