Meet MTA – Mobile Travel Agents’ Amanda Erwin
Family background: I grew up on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, the eldest of five girls. I’m happily married and now living in the northern rivers of NSW, Uralba. I have also lived in Cape Cod, Massachusettes, Lord Howe Island and Central Queensland.
What did you do before you joined MTA? I have worked in the industry for nearly 40 years in various airline and agency roles.
When and why did you join MTA? I joined MTA in August 2012, I left the industry for a sea change and new challenge in real estate, and, soon realising the error in my ways, quickly came back to travel.
What do you like most about working as an MTA Member? A feeling of being part of this vibrant family.
Do you have a specialised area in travel? Luxury leisure
What’s one of your biggest personal achievements? Raising two beautiful nieces who lost a parent from an early age.
What’s the biggest thing you’ve learnt since starting as a home-based travel agent? Abandoning the 9 – 5, being able to help clients whenever the need arises.
What sets MTA apart from the rest? The fabulous MTA head office team – their reliable support makes running my business a joy.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given and who gave it? My father in law, who told me at a young age, to find a profession you love.
Who do you admire and see as a role model in the industry? Sir Richard Branson
What destinations are next on your travel bucket list? Patagonia, Costa Rica and Alaska.
What’s the most memorable travel experience you’ve had (good or bad)? A 10-day horse trek in the Hurunui Region of Canterbury on New Zealand’s South Island.
What three things do you always take with you when travelling? My Kindle, iPhone and moisturiser.
Which famous person would you most like to travel with and where to? George Clooney and it doesn’t matter where we go!!
What do you find yourself doing on your weekends? Gardening, swimming and spending time with family and friends
What direction do you see the industry heading in over the next five to ten years? Clients gradually returning to the realisation the benefits employing an experienced travel advisor can bring.
