Meet MTA – Mobile Travel Agents’ Kyara Newport

Family background: Two married children – five grandchildren

What did you do before you joined MTA? Senior consultant Qantas Travel Centre

When and why did you join MTA? In 2006 Qantas closed its Travel Centres, a friend recommended MTA and I never looked back.

What do you like most about working as an MTA Member? I am allowed to run my own race.

Do you have a specialised area in travel? Having lived in New Zealand for a few years pre-children and revisiting a multitude of times I have always found this an easy destination to sell.

What’s one of your biggest personal achievements? Completing a Bishop’s Certificate in Children’s Ministry and being chosen to speak on behalf of my fellow students, before the Bishop in a packed church.

What’s the biggest thing you’ve learnt since starting as a home-based travel agent? If it’s going to be, it is up to me.

What sets MTA apart from the rest? The family owned/family run business feel.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given and who gave it? God only gives you as much as you can handle – my Grandmother.

Who do you admire and see as a role model in the industry? All my peers who have selflessly assisted me over the years.

What destinations are next on your travel bucket list? To sail from the UK via Iceland and Greenland to Nova Scotia.

What’s the most memorable travel experience you’ve had (good or bad)? Alaska and seeing the Northern Lights.

What three things do you always take with you when travelling? Passport, i-Phone and credit cards.

Which famous person would you most like to travel with and where to? Prince Harry – to Lesotho to experience the good work his Sentebale charity actions in support pf the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people affected by HIV.

What do you find yourself doing on your weekends? Attending Church and spending time with the family and my adorable grandchildren.

What direction do you see the industry heading in over the next five to ten years? People putting their faith back in Travel Agents.
