Dublin’s best luxury hotel debuts new picnic experience

As part of Dublin’s five-star The Merrion Hotel‘s 21st-anniversary celebrations this year, the hotel has unveiled a brand-new restaurant called The Garden Room, located in a beautiful new building within The Merrion’s private garden.

Aimed to conjure up a country feeling within the city, the new all-day-dining Garden Room features floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open onto the terrace and garden. The interior design was led by Alice Roden, who used Florentine lighting to cast a warm glow on deep yellow walls, French fabrics and colors from Pierre Frey and Catry. The curved glass eglomise bar by Irish botanical artist Yanny Petters features willow boughs wrought in 23-carat gold. The menu features a variety of artisanal food producers and local ingredients, with Executive Chef Ed Cooney at the helm, bringing a modern spin on traditional Irish cuisine.

Also new for summer, The Merrion has just introduced a new Garden Room Picnic Experience to fully embrace summertime in Dublin. Served daily from 3pm to 6pm from June through September, guests can take the picnic either out on the terrace or in The Garden Room restaurant. Menu items include Burren Smokehouse salmon blinis with dill crème fraîche; charred green asparagus with whipped feta and Amalfi lemon; and traditional English Eton Mess, a mixture of strawberries, broken pieces of meringue and whipped heavy cream.
