Southern Highlands giant pie drive
Former Robertson local, NSW State of Origin, Parramatta Eels and Australian Rugby League Representative and this year’s Pie Time ambassador Nathan Hindmarsh today launched a unique local fundraiser as part of this year’s Pie Time campaign.
Local charity organisation Meals on Wheels Southern Highlands and Destination Southern Highlands has ‘baked-up’ a unique initiative by creating the Great Pie Drive Fundraiser. Meals on Wheels will be producing an assortment of savoury and dessert pies which will provide local schools, sporting clubs, business houses, associations and community groups with the opportunity to fundraise themselves whilst also helping Meals on Wheels to sustain their valuable community services in the Southern Highlands.
Meals on Wheels Manager Debbie Smith said “June is a great time to enjoy a locally made fresh pie amongst family and friends. It’s also a great way to help fundraise within the local community and we are delighted to join in this year’s Pie Time celebrations with a local community campaign that will help our organisation raise much needed funds.”
Meals on Wheels will be baking five (5) savoury pies (Aussie Meat, Steak & Kidney, Chicken & Leak, Braised Steak & Vegetarian) plus four (4) dessert pies (Apple, Apricot, Fruit Fruits & Cherry). “There is a pie for everybody and it’s easy to participate.” said Debbie. Meals on Wheels are requesting that groups rally their supporters and complete the order forms and return them to Meals on Wheels Southern Highlands by the end of May for delivery of their freshly made pies in June so as to enjoy during this year’s Pie Time.
Destination Southern Highlands Manager Steve Rosa added “we are excited that Pie Time has a great new community initiative for 2018 in the Great Pie Drive Fundraiser and to able to partner with local charity organisation Meals on Wheels. We are encouraging locals to get behind this year’s Pie Time by purchasing pies and share them with family & friends throughout June. We have also initiated ‘Locals Pie Night’ for Saturday 30 June which will be the finale celebration of this year’s Pie Time. With our regions high visiting Friends and Relatives tourism market we encourage local residents to invite family and friends to the Highlands and share a pie and our great region during June.”
