Discover Scenic’s Bordeaux with Getaway
Tune in to Getaway over the next three weeks as Catriona Rowntree takes the scenic route to discover the highlights and hidden gems of France’s beautiful Bordeaux region. The Nine Network will be screening three full half hour episodes on Saturday 10, 17 and 24 March.
Catriona’s 5-star all-inclusive luxury river cruise on board Scenic Diamond will see her depart the ‘City of Light’ Paris for France’s famed wine capital, travelling through some of the most spectacular scenery the south west of France has to offer.
Inspired by Scenic’s Breathtaking Bordeaux itinerary, Catriona begins her journey in stylish Paris with a visit to the iconic Eiffel Tower and the famous Lido cabaret show, before sampling Paris as a local on Scenic’s Paris with a Parisian tour. The walking tour takes in some of the city’s most famous landmarks, cafes and boutiques.
Departing Paris by rail, Catriona arrives in Bordeaux and after a quick tour through the city, boards Scenic Diamond to begin her river cruise. With the first full day still taking in the sights of Bordeaux, Catriona shops with a chef at a local market and explores the impressive Cité du Vin.
The following episode sees Catriona travelling to Bordeaux’s surrounding towns and villages for a look at local life. Her first stop is Saint-Émilion for a taste of a few local delicacies and a tour of the city’s impressive catacombs, before a stop at Château Siaurac and Franc Mayne wineries.
Rejoining Scenic Diamond, Catriona takes in a cooking class at the ship’s new bespoke cooking school, Scenic Culinaire, where she learns the culinary secrets behind the perfect coq au vin.
Continuing on her journey, a visit to Paulliac and the breathtaking Medoc wine region beckon, with Catriona able to explore the countryside on one of the ship’s e-bikes. An immersive experience at Château L’Grange follows, before Catriona returns again to the ship and its Wellness Centre complete with new Salt Therapy Lounge. A final excursion to Sauternes includes a visit to stunning Château de Myrat.
The final episode introduces viewers to more of Bordeaux’s charms, from the impressive Château de Roquetaillade, to the fascinating town of Blaye and the breathtaking countryside, best explored by bike.
Following a chat with Scenic Diamond’s captain, Catriona heads to Cognac for a tour of Remy Martin, and then to the Bay of Archacon, home to Europe’s largest sand dune, the Dune du Pilat.
