Marriott International’s thriving culture of excellence propels company to top of survey
Marriott International’s commitment to excellence in the workplace has seen the company named a 2017 Best Employer in Asia Pacific by Aon Hewitt, the global talent, retirement and health solutions business of Aon plc (NYSE: AON). Craig S. Smith, Marriott International’s President and Managing Director for Asia Pacific, said: “Putting people first is the cornerstone of our culture and we’re honored to once again be recognized as a best employer. The dedication and development of our associates drive business results. Throughout 2018, we will continue to encourage innovation, provide greater opportunities and reward success which should further strengthen our growth in Asia Pacific.”
Asia Pacific is the company’s second fastest-growing region and in 2018, it is set to expand further still with 80 new hotels across 16 markets. Underpinning this growth is Marriott’s approach to attracting and retaining talent: Associates develop progressive careers, in a company that celebrates teamwork, excellence and community involvement.
“Keeping people engaged and enthusiastic is a priority at Marriott International and why we offer holistic programs such as TakeCare, which focuses on an associates’ body, mind and spirit. This unique program helps them build a healthy and secure future. Initiatives such as this help to create a positive environment as well as attract and maintain stellar talent,” said Regan Taikitsadaporn, Chief Human Resources Officer for Asia Pacific at Marriott International.
Marriott International also offers professional development programs for associates at every stage of their career, from the Global Voyage Leadership Development Program for recent university graduates to GM Elevate which helps prepare aspiring and new general managers for the leadership role. As part of its commitment to diversity and inclusion, Marriott also focuses on promoting and developing women leaders. In 2017 alone, the group saw a near 20 percent increase in female general managers across Asia Pacific.
Marriott International is the only company to receive global recognition consecutively since Aon began the program in 2014 – a testament to the group’s commitment to long-term success and sustainability through its people. 2017 also saw Marriott achieve certification in four regions – Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East, and Africa – in addition to earning Best Employer status in 51 of 101 eligible countries and territories.
