Investigate Macarthur’s haunting past
Get into the ‘spirit’ of Macarthur’s spooky history on an investigative ghost tour, as paranormal investigators lead a group of brave souls to Campbelltown’s haunted hot spots on the lookout for the legendary Ghost of Fred Fisher.
The tour will begin at 6.30pm on Saturday, February 10, 2018, when guests will use ghost-hunting equipment to explore some of the town’s oldest – and spookiest – sites, including the original Campbelltown Town Hall, which stands on land once owned by Fred Fisher, known for being one of Australia’s most famous ghosts.
Included in the tour will be the creek where Fisher’s ghost was spotted in 1826, the locality of his home and also his burial site in St Peter’s cemetery along with the location of the colonial gallows. Also included are the Campbelltown Visitor Centre, which was once a catholic school, and Emily Cottage where many modern-day residents have claimed to have seen a ghost of a woman who was killed in a lightning strike there in 1883.
The torch-led, adults-only tour will be run by Sydney Investigation Ghost Tours and led by paranormal investigators, Jenny Van Genderen and Jeanette Kamper. The hosts will look for ghosts using specialised, electromagnetic field metres which measure residual energy and digital voice recorders to hear spirit voices.
Fisher, an emancipated convict, mysteriously disappeared from his Campbelltown farm in 1826. Soon after, a local farmer stumbled into a hotel in a state of shock, claiming he had seen the ghost of Fred Fisher hovering above a creek bridge. Fisher’s ghost was pointing to a paddock down the stream where his body was later found. A neighbour, George Worrall, who had tried to sell Fisher’s assets after the disappearance, was charged for the murder and hanged.
The cost of the Campbelltown Historical Ghost Tour is $69 per person, including hot drinks, non-alcoholic beverages and snacks. Comfortable footwear and a small torch are advised. Bookings are limited and participants must be 18 years of age or older.
