BhutanOn The Go Tours discovers the mystery of Bhutan

Bhutan is regarded as one of the world’s most intriguing and captivating destinations. Set in the Himalayas, it’s a land of immense beauty with dramatic mountains and wide valleys enclosed with magic and mystery.

On The Go Tours’ Brisbane-based, Cherylyn Antao, was fortunate enough to visit Bhutan for the first time last month with 7 other industry staff from Mexico, Canada, USA, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia.

Since opening its doors to the western world in 1974, Bhutan remains untouched by modern civilisation with an ethos of preserving its ancient culture and natural environment. We only need to see how the country measures its progress through ‘Gross National Happiness’ to understand it is an incomparable destination to visit.

“Bhutan really is a whole different world,” says Antao. “The people are lovely and are so proud of their country despite not having all the latest technology.”

The group were led by a licensed Bhutanese guide who parted his knowledge and passion for his country while visiting iconic sites such as the Tiger Nest Monastery.

“It was one of the most scenically beautiful countries I have been too – colour prayer flags, pray bells and fresh mountain air… take me back!”

In addition to their private tours, On The Go Tours now offer a handful of group tours from their Signature Range as well as a trekking itinerary from their Active Range.

On The Go Tours recommend their Wonders of Bhutan tour, taking travellers from Paro to Punahka and back over 7-days.

A bucket list opportunity would be to attend the Thimphu Tshechu Festival, which occurs in September. Experience the famed masked performances and other cultural displays at the city’s most popular event. The Thimphu Festival tour is a mix of unique experiences such as hiking to the Chimi Lhakhand Temple and camping next to the scenic Mo Chu River, to picking up beautiful, local, hand-woven crafts to take home. The 8-day tour departs 16th September 2018.

A visit to Bhutan can easily be combined with a trip to neighbouring countries Nepal or India for a more diverse Himalayan adventure. Travellers can choose between the 14-day Best of India & Bhutan tour or the 15-day Highlights of Bhutan & Nepal tour .
