Carnival Cruise Line sails into Melbourne Cup
Carnival Spirit sailed into the Port of Melbourne, with over 2,000 guests getting frocked up in preparation for the annual Melbourne Cup festivities at Flemington Race Course.
The ship departed Sydney on Sunday 5 November 2017 and guests enjoyed a range of fun-filled racing activities on their journey down to Melbourne. Please see highlights below:
A couple of legendary Aussies – race caller, John Tapp and retired jockey and 1987 Melbourne Cup winner, Larry Olsen, shared a presentation to over 1,000 guests. John made hearts race as he did his famous ‘Phantom Race Call’ leading to a standing ovation.
The Race Call was based on him actually pretending he was calling today’s race and tipping who he thought would win, putting Marmelo, ridden by Hugh Bowman (the winner of three Cox Plate wins on champion mare Winx).
Television presenter, Erica Davis, and Melbourne based stylist and boutique owner Trish G, delighted guests with their fashion expertise. The duo also ran a competition for a guest makeover so they were fully primed for the big day out in Melbourne.
Eli, Carnival Spirit’s Cruise Director, also received a sharp makeover and demonstrated to passengers the art showing of the perfect suit. Lucky guests were also treated to new clothing items to flaunt at the races with a bounty of giveaways.
