Mudgee Region bands together to support McGrath Foundation
This October, the Mudgee Region will support the McGrath Foundation in respect of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The popular region best known for its sophisticated food and drink credentials will turn PINK for the second year in a row, raising funds for the foundation that places Breast Care Nurses in communities throughout the country.
Last year was an incredible success with Mudgee being the first town in Australia to turn PINK, engaging over 280 local businesses in the Mid-West Region to raise $140,000 for the foundation.
This year, the region has already increased the number of local businesses participating in this truly important month-long initiative, championing another Australian first as the Mudgee Rural Fire Brigade turns their fire engine PINK for the month.
Cara George, CEO of Mudgee Regional Tourism says, “It is an incredible feeling to be part of a community that wants to contribute to such a great cause. Everyone who lives in the region, or visits the region throughout the year is already aware of the generous spirit our community emanates, so to share the love with the rest of Australia is wonderful – We hope it inspires other regions to come together and support Breast Cancer Awareness Month.”
It’s not just local businesses getting on-board this year, Mudgee residents are encouraged to take part in the online competition to ‘Pink Up Your House’ and further spread the colour PINK through the community.
Hugh Bateman, the founder of Pink Up Mudgee Says, “I’m pleased to see the concept growing off the back of last year’s success. This year we have over 285 local businesses participating in PINK activities, nine separate events throughout the month to drive donations and of course, a competition to engage Mudgee residents to take part in the fun. I’m looking forward to another successful year, and raising more funds for the McGrath Foundation.”
