Hong Kong hosts first UCI Asia Tour
Cyclists from around the world descended on the busy streets of Hong Kong yesterday for the 2017 Union Cyclist International (UCI) Asia Tour Class 1.1 Road Race.
Held for the first time under the UCI banner, the race was a highlight of the 2017 Sun Hung Kei Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon.
Australian world team, Orica Scott and continental team, IsoWhey Sports SwissWellness battled it out against 15 professional teams, including Tour de France riders Ben Swift and Jens Keukeleire; Asia Tour leader Mauricio Ortega Ramirez; 2016 Cyclothon triple champion Matej Mohoric; and 2017 All-China Game gold medalist Leung Chun Wing.
Set against the backdrop of the city’s cosmopolitan skyline, the main race followed a 50km closed-circuit sprint course through the bustling streets of Hong Kong. Matej Mohoric fromUAE Team Emirates took out the Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Challenge, whilst Taiwanese cyclist Mr Feng Chun-kai claimed the Men’s Open and Hong Kong cyclist, Ms Lenny Leung came in to take the Women’s Open. In the team time trial, Success EZR Team A finished first, winning the HKSAR 20th Anniversary Trophy.
Amateur cyclists also joined in on the action with a number of casual rides held throughout the day.
