Ted’s Travels – The land of Volcanoes
Nicaragua is a great destination for those who would like to avoid touristy places, it is one of the less travelled destinations in Central America. Travellers who would like a peaceful and friendly country with a lot of history, culture, sights and natural landscapes, Nicaragua is my recommendation.
On the Caribbean side of the country your clients will feel the British influence, in Bluefields for example; while on the Pacific, one can see the Spanish dominance in the City of Leon. In between, the land is full of volcanoes and lakes that offer amazing wildlife and natural landscapes. The massive Lake of Nicaragua hosts Ometepe Island, the largest freshwater island in the world. This island offers an incredible view with its two twin volcanos: Concepcion and Maderas. In Ometepe we recommend a visit to the Altagracia Church and Museum followed by Santo Domingo beach while clients admire the horizon interrupted by the twin volcanoes.
Another must see is Granada, one of America’s oldest and best preserved colonial cities, travellers can enjoy a walking tour through the city including its parquet Central, San Francisco Convent and the pedestrian Calle de la Calzada. In Granada there are many excursions your clients can take, like the Isletas or a visit to Mombacho Volcano only 10km from the city.
We suggest your clients can stay in the quiet and beautiful beaches of the Pacific on their way to Leon, where they will have a lot of well-preserved colonial buildings. On the Caribbean side, on the other side of the country, the Corn Islands, that were once a base for British buccaneers, will be the place to relax, your clients can soak up the sun on idyllic beaches of clear blue water perfect for snorkelling and diving.
Nicaragua is a beautiful country, and as I said, one off the beaten track, call us to arrange an itinerary with Nicaragua’s highlights and even add the best lodges of Central America with a trip connecting Nicaragua to Costa Rica. Yes, we can do that!
