Ted’s Travels – Falkland Islands
The Falkland Islands are conformed by 778 islands found approximately 480km of the Patagonia coast. Full of amazing landscapes, a wide wildlife diversity and British heritage, the Falkland Islands make a one of kind destination that not many travel to.
English is the main language spoken in these islands, as they were colonised by the British, that’s why your clients will find the typical red British letterboxes and beer pint-serving pubs.
Stanley is the capital, and this is where the highest concentration of the population lives; it has many interesting monuments explaining the maritime and military history. The main controversy of this destination has been their affiliation to the British Crown, as Argentina has also claimed ownership over the islands many times over since 1800’s, that explains why the islands are also known as the Malvinas, in Spanish. But it wasn’t until 2013 that the islanders voted to remain a British overseas territory.
The Falkland Islands have impressive wildlife, with over 200 species of birds and 14 species of marine mammals, that can be appreciated through different excursions. The most impressive one includes guided 4WD treks, round-robin flights and boat excursions that will enable your clients to spot the endangered and endemic species of birds such as the black-browned albatross and the Cobb’s wren. A fun fact about The Falkland islands? There’s over half a million sheep and less than 3,000 Falkland Islanders!
The best time to visit this place is from October to April, as is has the best weather and the migratory animals return to give birth; however, it is a chilly summer, the maximum temperature in the peak of summer is 15 degrees Celsius. Your clients can fly from Punta Arenas to the Malvinas and explore the other Islands if they stay for extra days, if not, they can enjoy a whole itinerary visiting also the Antarctic Peninsula and South Georgia by cruise ship.
