Tourism flying into Brisbane
Tourism in Brisbane has seen strong growth in domestic and international visitation, with record numbers of visitors travelling through Brisbane Airport and with Airtrain over the last twelve months.
Brisbane Marketing CEO Brett Fraser said visitor numbers had been driven by Brisbane’s strong positioning in the tourism sector as a destination for major events.
“The success of world-class events such as the Pacquiao v Horn bout and State of Origin fixtures at Suncorp Stadium, as well as a string of internationally-renowned performances and exhibitions, have all helped contribute to the increase in travellers,” Mr Fraser said.
“These are in addition to regular drawcard events such as the Brisbane International, Brisbane Global Rugby Tens, World Science Festival Brisbane and the Brisbane Festival.
“As we move to attract and grow major events as part of the Brisbane 2022 New World City Action Plan, we can look forward to the positive economic impacts these events bring by attracting more visitors.”
To support the increased number of travellers arriving at Brisbane Airport, Airtrain has been working with key tourism bodies including Brisbane Marketing and Gold Coast Tourism to provide attendees a faster and more seamless travel experience to South East Queensland events.
Airtrain CEO Chris Basche said the business has been working with Brisbane Marketing and various events throughout South East Queensland to ensure a seamless travel experience for event attendees and travellers.
“Our partnerships with The Bodyguard, 140th Annual Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) and Kinky Boots (The Musical) has resulted in more passengers than ever travelling to Brisbane City” Mr Basche said.
“Event partnerships combined with our range of ticket products which benefit advanced bookings as well as return passengers and families mean we have been able to offer a competitive service for domestic and international passengers travelling to South East Queensland.”
