Eight4Nine Restaurant & Lounge: Palm Springs Party Fun

Now that the burst of activity surrounding Modernism Week has come and gone, visitors to Palm Springs can enjoy this beautiful city in a less frenetic state. Though the buzz of this week’s tennis tournament in nearby Indian Wells brings an athletic theme to balance the cultural appeal of Modernist architecture, travellers are hungry no matter what the reason for their visit. Those who have already come to California’s alluring desert destination know that the culinary scene is one of the best in the Golden State; all those demanding palates from LA and San Francisco expect no compromise in the quality of their dining experiences here. Luckily for them, there is Eight4Nine.

A relatively recent arrival on the Palm Springs dining scene, Eight4Nine Restaurant & Lounge is located in the Palm Springs Uptown Design District, a burgeoning area on and around North Palm Canyon Drive that has seen a spate of furniture shops, art galleries, and dining establishments open in recent years. The atmosphere of Eight4Nine‘s expansive spaces, best described as Alternative Glam Dynasty Meets Mardi Gras, have been a huge hit with locals and visitors alike who are immediately taken with the style of the unconventional decor and further impressed by the excellence of the food selected from a diverse menu of Modern American dishes created by Executive Chef Chuck Courtney. Owners Willie Rhine and John Pascal, along with their dedicated staff, work tirelessly to see that patrons are always happy. None of those big-city palate leaves Eight4Nine unsatisfied. The name, incidentally comes from the restaurant’s address at 849 North Palm Canyon Drive.

Though known mostly for its stunning setting, rich architectural patrimony, and international film festival, Palm Springs is also one of the most philanthropic cities in America. A concentration of wealthy visitors and residents ensures a busy calendar of well-attended fundraisers. Eight4Nine‘s indoor spaces ranging from private dining rooms to the entire restaurant and its expansive private patio are favourite venues for fundraising events. Not that one needs an event to enjoy a drink or a meal here. The glass wall of the front bar provides ample possibilities for afternoon sipping while enjoying the passing show outside. Holiday dinners for Christmas are Valentine’s Day extremely popular and sell out well in advance.
