Hilton Brisbane dominates Australasian final of 2017 Hilton Food and Beverage Masters
Moods are high as Hilton Brisbane’s team took home gold at last week’s 2017 Australasian F&B Masters Regional Grand Finale, beating 44 of Hilton’s world-class food & beverage talent across Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.
The competition first started in Europe in 2011 and has since made its way around the globe. Now in its second year in the Australasian region, the internal food & beverage competition discovers, develops and celebrates the best food & beverage talent throughout the company.
Held in Brisbane last week, the competition saw Hilton’s best go head to head across four different disciplines including culinary, barista, bar and sommelier. Hilton Brisbane successfully took home the win in the culinary, bar and barista categories, with a narrow loss to Sydney in the sommelier category. Chris Partridge, general manager, Hilton Brisbane, said, “The awards were the result of some really hard work and great commitment from some of the hotel’s emerging food & beverage talent who are themselves part of Brisbane’s exciting restaurant and bar landscape. “
“The F&B Masters is about people development. It gives our team members an opportunity to develop their skills and creativity in a variety of food & beverage disciplines that they are passionate about.” Mr Partridge said.
Contestants were judged by a panel of experts in the industry including internationally acclaimed chef Sean Connelly of The Morrison in Sydney and Brokenwood winemaker Iain Riggs. Various criteria had to be met including blind tastings, creative use of mystery ingredients, speed of service and theoretical knowledge and more.
