From Roman Relics to Gaelic Mythology
Cultural and archaeological tour specialist Peter Sommer Travels has launched its largest range of tours in 2017, introducing England and Ireland for the first time as well as new itineraries in Croatia, Italy and Greece.
The British Isles tours are the first that Peter Sommer Travels has offered outside the Mediterranean and provide the same award-winning combination of expert historian and archaeologist guides, very small groups, enthralling ancient history, superb local scenery and delicious cuisine.
Four new Mediterranean gulet cruises have also been added to the 2017 range of trips, including a family adventure in the Aegean and an off-the-beaten-track experience travelling the Dalmatian coast, following the successful debut of the Croatia tours in 2016.
A total of 30 tours are on offer in the new 2017 Peter Sommer Travels brochure, including three new tour options in the UK and Ireland:
*Exploring Wessex: From Neolithic Avebury to Georgian Bath – a 7-day tour exploring World Heritage sites and great landmarks of the old Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Wessex, including the awe-inspiring stone circles at Stonehenge and Avebury, the remarkable mosaics at the Roman Villa of Chedworth, the delicate beauty of Salisbury Cathedral, the picturesque ruins of Glastonbury Abbey and the Georgian grandeur and Roman legacy of Bath. *Exploring Hadrian’s Wall: Romans, Reivers and Romantics – a 7-day tour which delves into England’s richly-layered history while staying in magnificent 14th century Langley Castle. The tour follows Roman Emperor Hadrian’s monumental fortifications across the frontier lands of northern England and explores medieval market towns to learn about a region which has drawn conquerors and settlers across the centuries. *Exploring Ireland: The Heart of the Emerald Isle – an 11-day trip which delves into Ireland’s heritage, tradition and culture while staying in a range of renovated castles, manors and town houses. Highlights include the Megalithic tombs of Newgrange and Knowth, the magnificent ‘Celtic’ cliff-side fort at Dun Aonghasa and the dazzling heart of Dublin. Departing July 17, 2017, prices start from £4,295 pp twin share including accommodation in four and five-star hotels.
The 2017 program also sees the introduction of Peter Sommer Travels’ first ever Croatian walking and cruising itinerary, an eight-day tour along the southern Dalmatian coast combining a gulet cruise with escorted walks exploring ancient forts, beautiful towns and magnificent castles.. Meanwhile the new gulet itineraries include an 8-day Aegean cruise from Kos to Patmos, an 8-day cruise through Italy’s Aeolian Islands, an 8-day family cruise in Greece and an 8-day voyage along the Dalmatian Coast from Šibenik to Zadar.
