Queenstown’s Hotel St Moritz thrilled to win hospitality and accommodation award
One of Queenstown’s finest boutique hotels, Hotel St Moritz, has been recognised for its business excellence in the accommodation sector.
The hotel won the Air New Zealand Excellence in Hospitality and Accommodation Award at this weekend’s Queenstown Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.
Awards organisers had noted that entries into this year’s competition were of “an extremely high standard”, so General Manager Jo Finnigan was particularly thrilled that St Moritz fared so well.
“The award is testament to the hard work and dedication of all our staff, past and present, to deliver on our vision to be recognised as one of New Zealand’s leading boutique hotels,” she said.
“We have a charming and unique property that’s defined by our long-standing reputation, service delivery and commitment to excellence.
“The submission process for the awards is rigorous, so it’s a fantastic opportunity to review every facet of our business. For us, the award is not only recognition of our great hotel, but also for our innovation, processes and discipline.”
One of Queenstown’s finest boutique hotels, the five-star 134-room Hotel St Moritz has had much to celebrate in recent months.
Earlier this year it announced a major ‘brand shift’ within the luxury accommodation market in Queenstown, by joining the Sofitel brand universe. The property is now positioned within the newly-badged MGallery by Sofitel collection by parent company AccorHotels.
As a result of the repositioning, it’s in the process of completing a $3million investment in its room inventory to completely redecorate all rooms and suites in the property, which overlooks Lake Wakatipu and surrounding mountains.
The distinguished design for the rooms retains the hotel’s charming alpine character while incorporating a modern interpretation of luxury, through locally inspired and immersive features filled with heritage, stories and richness.
Renowned interior designer Stewart Harris, who has worked with the hotel since its development, coins the design as “elegant, residential, handsome and enviable, with firm landscape references”.
Having launched its stunning new bathrooms in 2015, the next stage of refurbishment is being welcomed by staff and visitors alike.
The Queenstown Chamber of Commerce awards recognise the hotel property’s ‘extraordinary people’ as a number one strength, along with its unique and unbeatable setting, innovative culture and the strength of its restaurant Lombardi, which has a very strong local following as well as huge appeal to in-house guests.
