Jazz Lovers, if you have a hankering for soulful, bold sounds performed by some of the world’s leading jazz musicians, then make sure to book your ticket to the Penang Island Jazz Festival this December. From 1 – 4 December the 12th annual Jazz Festival is returning to the Malaysian island, with a swag of renowned local and international jazz musicians in tow.

Built on a ‘foundation of friendship’, the Festival was originally conceived as a celebration of music, culture, family and friends. This year that includes participation from artists drawn from right across the globe – including the USA, UK, Australia, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Germany, Norway, Netherlands, Sweden, Brazil, Hungary and even Taiwan.

One of the most highly anticipated music festivals in South East Asia, the Festival takes place over four huge days, featuring a comprehensive – and impressive, program of performances throughout, which incorporate a wide variety of musical sub-genres that pay homage to the rich history of Jazz.

Held at one of Penang’s most popular destinations, Batu Ferringhi, the Festival weaves its way in and out of this vibrant and picturesque stretch of coastline, with venues taking in dining hot spots and even the local night market – all of which add up to an exciting and entertaining event guaranteed to appeal to visitors no matter where their musical tastes may lie.

Quite a few events are free. And with plenty of accommodation options right in the heart of Batu Ferringhi, including Shangri-La’s spectacular Rasa Sayang Resort, the Lone Pine Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel and the Park Royal Resort, there is something to suit every budget.

The Festival is supported by the British Council, the Goethe-institute Malaysia and the Danish Embassy.
