US College Football game ‘American dream’ for Sydney hotels
Australia’s largest hotel operator, AccorHotels has congratulated the NSW State Government and Destination NSW on securing a $10 million touchdown with the first ever American College Football game to be played in Sydney in August 2016.
Sydney Olympic Park will be home to an all-American extravaganza and host the first game of the American College Football season between the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Hawaii at ANZ Stadium on Saturday, 27 August 2016.
“We congratulate the NSW State Government and Destination NSW on securing this landmark sporting event which will earn is place in history for our tourism sector,” said Chief Operating Officer AccorHotels Pacific, Simon McGrath.
“The arrival of American College Football in Sydney will have an enormous impact on our visitor economy and hotel sector but more importantly, it will thrust Sydney into the homes of almost 30 million Americans and showcase our rich country and tourism offering to a whole new generation of travellers from the United States.
“Not surprisingly tourism is stepping up as the primary service sector to replace the mining-led economy and credit to the NSW Government for helping to fuel it. The football event will take place a week following the Bledisloe Cup challenge between the All Blacks and Wallabies so August is shaping up to be a record sporting spectacular for Sydney and AccorHotels,” said Mr McGrath.
“There’s no doubt this event will excite our home-based football fans too and stimulate domestic travel for those seeking to experience the star-spangled spectacle of touchdowns, cheer squads and traditional marching bands,” concluded Mr McGrath.
The State Government and Destination NSW expect more than 15,000 international and interstate visitors to join the 420 footballers and coaching staff who will arrive from both teams, as well as the support crew of cheerleaders and marching bands.
AccorHotels’ Sydney Olympic Park hotels with brands including Pullman, Novotel, ibis and ibis Budget are expected to be fully booked during the event. To book your Sydney accommodation now, visit accorhotels.com.au
