Matt Paterson, Customer Service Manager, roomsXML

Name:   Matt Paterson

Position:  Customer Service Manager

Company:   roomsXML Australia

When did you join the industry?
I joined the travel industry in 2011, my first role being at roomsXML which I’m thoroughly enjoying. Prior to travel I was involved with a fasteners company and window manufacturing.

What do you like about the industry?
The other people that you meet who are passionate about travel, who you can share stories and knowledge with.

Who would be your role model in the travel Industry?
Luke Vaughan, Anthony Valeriano and of course Mark Luckey (my boss), are people that I look up to within the travel industry.
They all have very simular qualities such as being genuine, great at what they do and always give you plenty of time to chat and provide advice.

What do you like most about your job?
The workplace environment that we have at roomsXML resembles a close family that gets along well with one another, which makes coming to work a joy. I also like the challenge of changing a customer’s problem into a positive outcome. Sometimes a customer will call with an issue and expect to have a difficult time resolving it. I love hearing the change in their voice when I make it easy.

What destinations are on your travel bucket list?
There are so many to choose from, but I’m really keen to travel to Canada and explore the Rockies, snowboard and see the Northern Lights.
Hawaii is another place I’d love to visit – perhaps it could be a nice stop over on the way back from Canada to defrost!

Name someone famous you’d like to travel with and a destination you’d like to go with them?
Adam Scott – playing a round of golf at Pebble Beach, California USA

Most memorable travel experience?
Travelling with a mate on a 37 day Contiki tour. As a 21 year old it was a great experience and a real eye opener. Only problem was being hung-over almost every morning of the trip.

The Three things I always take with me are?
Good pair of headphones
Comfortable shoes
