New Zealand gets into the winter spirit

Tourism New Zealand has partnered with Air New Zealand to encourage Australian travellers to embark on an adventure and discover the Kiwi winter magic, through their latest advertising campaign.

Running now until 30 June through television advertising and strategically placed online advertising on key sites, the campaign delivers a ‘more magic in every day’ message, showing travellers what the New Zealand winter experience is like both on and off the slopes.

“This is the third year we have promoted ‘more magic in every day’, which has proven very effective with enticing Australians to travel across the Tasman for a winter holidays and this year’s campaign takes the exciting proposition one step further as we work to attract occasional winter holiday makers and skiers with the many attractions New Zealand has to offer in addition to the snow,” Tourism New Zealand general manager Australia Tony Saunders said.

Furthermore, Air New Zealand, Virgin Australia, Jetstar and Qantas have announced additional flights between Sydney and Queenstown to cope with high demand over the busy peak winter season, as Queenstown continues to experience significant growth.

“Through our alliance with Virgin Australia, we are delighted to offer more Australian winter holiday makers direct access to the NZ slopes and working with Tourism New Zealand broadens the reach of our direct access message to Australians considering to travel to New Zealand this winter,” Air New Zealand general manager Australia Leanne Geraghty said.

Over the last decade, Australian visitor arrival numbers to the South Island have grown significantly, with Tourism New Zealand's research showing Australian visitors are more likely to travel to New Zealand for winter, indicating ski and snow activities work well in attracting new visitation to the country.

In related news, travel website Wotif and Christchurch Canterbury Tourism have launched a two week campaign, 'Come enjoy a real winter', encouraging travellers to discover Christchurch and the Canterbury region's attractions in winter.

"Canterbury has more ski fields than any other region in the Southern Hemisphere – you can fly into Christchurch, pick up a car and be on the slopes in only a few hours, making it the ultimate New Zealand winter road trip destination," Wotif New Zealand product manager Renee Piggott said.
