Qatar Airways & VisitBritain help Aussies celebrate Scotland’s Year of Homecoming

Boeing, Qatar Airways Celebrate 777-300ER DeliveryQatar Airways and VisitBritain have launched a joint campaign promoting new flights between Melbourne and Edinburgh. Adding to the airline’s existing UK gateways of Manchester and London, the new flights make it easier than ever for Australians to travel to England and now Scotland, via one quick international connection in Doha, Qatar.

And there’s never been a better time to visit Scotland than 2014 as they invite the world to celebrate the Year of Homecoming with a full calendar of events showcasing the nation’s food and drink, active pursuits, cultural heritage, nature and ancestral heritage.

During 2014, Scotland will also host the Glasgow XX Commonwealth Games from July 23-August 3 and the associated Cultural Programme, while the Ryder Cup will be played at Gleneagles Resort in September, celebrating the spiritual homeland of the modern game of golf.

Mark Haynes, Marketing Manager Australia, VisitBritain, said it’s never been easier for the one million Australians who visit Britain every year to explore the countryside and uncover the rich heritage and culture in places like Scotland.

”From castle trails and outstanding scenic beauty to cities of music and literature, Scotland is an extraordinary country. Sample a local dram of whisky and the freshest of seafood or take a cruise on Loch Ness to see if you can spy out Nessie. Whatever your interests, Scotland is the perfect gateway to start your British adventure”’, said Mr Haynes.

Qatar Airways Country Manager Australasia, Adam Radwanski, added;

“We are delighted to partner with VisitBritain on this campaign to highlight all of our UK destinations, including Manchester, London and our soon to be launched new route to Edinburgh, our first Scottish gateway.

“This campaign comes at a time of many new and exciting developments for Qatar Airways. In May this year we will see a new all Business Class A319 flight operated on the Doha to London Heathrow route, increasing our weekly frequency to London Heathrow from 35 to 42 flights.

“The same month, our inaugural flight to Edinburgh will see the journey time for passengers wishing to travel to Scotland from Australia significantly reduced, with just one smooth international transfer in Doha. This will be followed in June by the highly anticipated arrival of the first of our new A380 aircraft, which will launch on the Doha to London Heathrow route.”

The joint Qatar Airways/VisitBritain campaign will commence March 21 incorporating digital and radio advertising nationally as well as consumer events in Melbourne and Perth.
