Tourism operators on Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.) are striving to inform travellers that the Canadian province is gay-friendly.
Known as ‘the gentle island’, P.E.I. has always attracted a variety of tourists seeking an isle retreat, according to the StarPhoenix.
“What we’re trying to do is let travellers know that Prince Edward Island is gay-welcoming and we have a lot of the things that the research indicates that gay travellers are seeking,” P.E.I. Gay Tourism Association chairman Bill Kendrick said.
Creating awareness is an important building block in attracting gay guests to the island.
“If you ask for the king suite, you don’t want a staffer saying ‘but that’s just one bed,’” Charlottetown Cranford Inn owner Vicki Francis said.Ms Francis suggested displaying two men or two women in tourism guides to further enhance awareness.
