Gay Globe has launched in Australia as the nation’s only gay wholesaler, closing a “gap in the travel industry”, according to founder Reece Farmilo.
Gay Globe was fashioned to assist travel agents who deal with gay clientele, sourcing the best gay travel companies and tour providers from around the world.
“The gay community often prefers to deal with a travel agent who understands their specific requirements and many prefer to attend gay events around the world and travel on small group tours with other like minded travellers,” Mr Farmilo said.
“We knew there was a gap in the travel industry for a specialist wholesaler and we identified a need to properly service this important and growing market segment.”
Gay Globe already has 60 travel agents signed up to distribute its products and hopes to attract up to 200 agents by the end of 2013.
“With a buying power of 20 billion dollars the Australian lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) market is recognised as a lucrative audience of essentially dual income no kids (DINK) clientele,” Mr Farmilo said.
Upcoming products include a Bhutan group departure in January, a nine night Pacific cruise aboard Carnival Spirit in April and two 12 night Danube cruise departures during the European summer.
This is the first Sydney-based gay and lesbian travel agency since Jornada closed in the late 1990’s.
The new wholesaler was officially launched to the Australian travel industry this week at the Diamant Hotel Penthouse in Potts Point.
