Marriott International has released plans to open the first new hotel under the AC Hotels by Marriott portfolio in France early next year.

Rebranding the current Elysee Palace Hotel in Nice, AC Hotel Nice is expected to open its doors by early 2013 and will operate under a management agreement with SNC Hoche Promotion.

An online statement from Marriott read that the hotel would house up to 143 guestrooms and will include an outdoor swimming, a restaurant with panoramic views of Nice as well as become one of the most stylish hotels in the region.

“We are thrilled to announce the expansion of our AC Hotels by Marriott brand in to France,” Marriott International in Europe president Amy McPherson said

“We see tremendous opportunity for the brand here and are aggressively pursuing numerous development opportunities for AC throughout Europe and Latin America.”

AC Hotel Nice will join up to 80 existing AC Hotels by Marriott properties through Spain, Italy and Portugal.

As well as extending its European presence, Marriott International is also said to have recently purchased the MetLife Clock Tower building at Five Madison Avenue in New York.

Purchasing the property for up to US$165 million, the 41 story iconic building will be developed by the hotel Group said it will begin work on the Tower in partnership with developer, Ian Schrager, later this year.
