The first fair to receive a seat on the IGLTA, ITB Berlin director of competence center travel and logistics Martin Buck said the position comes with “great honour”.
“We see our work at the IGLTA as an opportunity to help develop new markets and strengthen human rights in tourism,“ Dr Buck explained.
The Group’s dedication to promoting GLBT travel commenced in 2009 when it created a section at its fair that showcased the growing gay and lesbian travel market as well provided surveys, back information on the market and information on what characterises it.
“We see more and more destinations wanting to get involved in LGBT travel and wanting to devote products and services specifically to this market,” he added.
“Travel products for gay travellers are now part and parcel of the tourism market in North America, Europe and Australia.“South America is now catching up, and countries such as India have also recognised the great potential that this travel category can offer the tourism industry.”
