• 35 years since brand launched for Queen’s Jubilee
Travelex has announced it is launching the world’s first Royal Wedding Cash Passport.
A limited edition MasterCard® prepaid currency card, it allows tourists visiting the UK to load Sterling onto the card, which can then be used to make purchases or withdraw cash.
The launch comes as record numbers of tourists are expected to visit the country to witness the wedding, with the foreign currency specialist expecting to an uplift of 25% in Sterling sales over the Royal wedding weekend as over 1 million tourists flock to London . Brazilians, Russians and Malaysians are expected to be the most popular visiting nationalities .
The launch of the Limited Edition Royal Wedding Cash Passport sees the Travelex brand continuing to leverage royal occasions in the Capital to take advantage of the increased numbers of visiting tourists.
Travelex UK Director Retail Operations Graham Edgar explains “The Travelex business was launched in London shortly before the Queen’s Jubilee in 1976. Back then it was just one shop not far from the Palace but now 35 years later tourists will be greeted by Travelex at the major London airports, online and at ATMs across the Capital. We are absolutely delighted that we are able to offer Royal fans a Limited Edition Cash Passport that can be used anywhere in the UK where you see the MasterCard acceptance mark, and across the world. It provides a safe and secure way for visiting tourists to exchange and manage their holiday money whilst in the UK as well as for those Brits heading abroad for the long weekend.”
The card, predominantly a regal navy colour, features an official image of Prince William and Kate Middleton on the day of their engagement announcement, against a Union Jack backdrop and Westminster Abbey, where they will be wed on April 29.
With the Travelex Cash Passport, cardholders can load up to £5,000. All cards can also be reloaded at any UK Travelex store and Cash Passport cardholders not only lock in their exchange rate at the time of load or reload, but also benefit from free ATM withdrawals and no charges on purchase transactions . If a cardholder has a UK bank account, they can then reload their card online or over the phone.
Royal fans can keep their eyes on the important details – like the dress and shoes – not their wallets, as the card is not connected to a bank account, giving peace of mind to those concerned about debit or credit card fraud and identity theft. There is also the benefit of a free, multi-lingual
The Limited Edition Royal Wedding MasterCard Cash Passport will be available from April 8th, for a limited time only, while stocks last. Fans can buy them at selected UK Travelex stores.
