Quake ups Air NZ capacity

Air New Zealand continued to increase capacity in and out of Christchurch over the weekend to keep up with the high demand for people wishing to depart he city.

The NZ flag carrier utilised two Boeing 747 aircraft to and from Auckland and Christchurch on Saturday and Sunday as well as one Airbus A320 between Auckland and Christchurch and Wellington on Saturday.

Extra aircraft was in addition to aircraft that were scheduled to fly in and out of the city each day.

Travellers eager to exit the country after earthquake that struck the city last week were also able to use the airlines AU$50 one way airfares on direct services to and from the Christchurch.

The airline also added that the special airfare fee will remain in place until after 6 March this year.
