City to Throw Mega Pyrotechnic Countdown Party.
On New Year’s Eve tomorrow, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) will again stage the Hong Kong New Year Countdown Celebrations to usher in 2011 with spectacular pyrotechnics. This year, the pyrotechnic show will last for four and a half minutes, and pyrotechnics will be used to create numerals for countdown for the first time. Led by the display on the top and both sides of Two ifc, pyrotechnics will be launched above the roofs of nine other buildings on Hong Kong Island, symbolising a dragon above Victoria Harbour to wish everyone an auspicious New Year.
Local residents can enjoy the pyrotechnic show at several vantage points on both Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon side, including the Hong Kong Cultural Centre (HKCC) Piazza, the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront between the Avenue of Stars and HKCC, the West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade, the Expo Promenade at the Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai and the Central Piers area.
Those hoping for an escalated party ambience can visit the HKCC Piazza, where the HKTB will stage a line-up of live performances, including singing by pop stars, at the HKCC Viewing Deck from 11:15pm tomorrow. The performances will be projected onto the façade of HKCC in real time for the enjoyment of spectators. The HKTB will also distribute over ten thousand inflatable cheering sticks in the shape of Two ifc to participants, as they cheer for the arrival of the New Year.
